Chiang Mai Wats and Walls
Here’s a video tour of some of Chiang Mai, Thailand’s Wats (temples) and the Ancient Wall (complete with moat) constructed by King Mengrai in 1296 as part of the Lannathai Kingdom which surrounds the inner city where the highest concentration of Wats may be found. One of the most distinctive Wats being a 13th century temple named Wat Chiang Man. Chiang Mai is a modern city, and like all of Thailand, is very well suited to the budget backpacker.
I stayed in Chiang Mai for a month and really enjoyed it. It is such a nice mix of modern and ancient where one may buy a Starbucks coffee and tour ancient Wats all in the space of a block. For an Westerner looking to experience the new and old of Thailand, it’s great!
